William Chamberlain was one of three sons
of Francis Chamberlain, the others being Thomas
and Edmund.
They first arrived in the new world at Elizabethtown,
Virginia in 1635.
Because of Indian massacres, the brothers fled
by ship to New England.
William was first in Woburn in 1648.
By 1651, he had sold his land and moved to Billerica,
a small settlement in the wilderness on a plot of land
called the Dudly Farm.
Here he lived out his life in relative prosperity.
He served as constable.
3. ) He married Rebecca Addington/Shelly
(which is her maiden name remains unclear).
In her last years, Rebecca suffered under the hysteria
of the New England Witch Trials.
She was imprisoned at Cambridge on a charge of mischief.
The prisons, being in poor condition and ill-equipped
to handle the volume of suspected witches,
undoubtedly contributed to her demise.
She died awaiting trial
