PILGRIM AND PURITAN GRANDFATHERS
IN OUR FAMILY TREE
10) ROBERT MILLER (IMG)
1652-1711 NEW LONDON, CT (8GGF)
10a) Recorded in; The Diary of Joshua
Hempstead, page 27 ,Wed 19 Aug
1713; "Robert
Miller's wife died last night,
was buried today."
10b) Robert -1- Miller's death
is recorded in; New
England Marriages Prior to 1700,
p 509, where it states;
"Robert died 1711.
10c) All 5 children are mentioned
in Roberts will of 1711.
It states double portions are to
go to Robert, the other
four children are to receive single
portions. His children
Henry and Sarah choose their
mother Elizabeth as
their guardian.
10d) In; History: of New London,
by Caulkins, page
327 , we read that Robert Miller
died leaving children
Robert, John and an unamed daughter".
It also states
Robert settled in the Nathantick
District, on the border
of Lyme, in about 1687.
10e) Lyme, New London, CT,
land rec. Vol 2, 103,
states Robert bought land in Nahantick
Plaines from
Mathew Beckwick on 07 Oct 1693.
He also recieved ten
acres of uplands in Lyme on 27
Jan 1697,
10f) In Lyme Land Rec,
Henry sold and to William Minor
on 27 May, 1743, in this transction
Henry is called "of
Brandford, Ct" , Vol 7 p 418,
and the land is described
as being "formerly of his father
Robert".
10g) Causing much confusion is
the fact that there were two
Robert MILLER's during this period,
and causing even
further confusion is the interesting
fact that they
BOTH married women named Elizabeth.
However,
it is commonly believed that the
one who married
Elizabeth "SABIN", is not
OUR Robert MILLER.
NOTE: Keep for reference; In
"A Genealogical
Dictionary of The First Settlers
of New England" by
James Savage, we find the following
refereence; "A
Miller came in the Planter, 1635
age 21 from Kingston,
Near London, and no more is heard
of him".
11) ROBERT MILLER JR.
1680-1752
LYME, CT (7GGF)
11a) There is a letter of probate to court in Lyme naming
Nicodemus administrator
of his mother's estate.
It is dated 20
Jul 1752
11b) Lyme Land Records V 6 P
39, V 7 P 75, 236, 346,
& 353, V 8 P14,217, V 9 P

12) MATTHEW BECKWITH
b: abt 1615 "of" LYME, CT (9GGF)
12a) I'm looking for data for Matthew Beckwith.
Please share so
we all may benefit. Thank you.
13) NATHANIEL BECKWITH
1641-1725
LYME, CT (8GGF)
I'm still searching for Nathaniel's data.
14) JOHN -1- SEARLE
1610-1641
SPRINGFIELD, MA
(10GGF)
14a) From Jerry Waters to jlfrench 09 Dec 2001: 1)
John was among
the first settlers of Springfield, MA.
Earliest
Springfield, MA records say he landed there
about 20 Mar 1636
and was the first death in Springfield
on 11 Aug 1641
14b) Occupation: Lot Measurer
(Surveyor)
14c) John -1-
was born in Warwick, England. He came
to Boston in 1634
with his two brothers, Andrew and
Edward, and perhaps
a sister, Joanna. But their parents
are still
unknown.
14d) John Neal, Berwick, Maine,
first mentioned 1660. All
evidence indicates that his wife,
Joanna
was a daughter
of Andrew Searle. John's son, Andrew
Neal administrated
Searle's estate in 1690. I also believe
he had a son,
John who died 17 Jul 1722 in Stratham, NH.
15) JOHN -2- SEARLES
(added
an "S" to his surname)
1641-1718 SPRINGFIELD,
MA (9GGF)
15a) NOTE: Some (including Dean Merrill White),
have his parents
listed as John -2- 's parents as
John -1- Searl
23 Mar 1611 and Margaret Channon
28 Apr 1611.
They have him with a birth year of abt 1631.
This would have
mad him only 7 or 8 years old when
he married Sarah
Baldwin. They have his
death as 03 Oct
1718
16) EBENEZER SEARLES
b: 1679 NORTHAMPTON, MA (8GGF)
I'm still searching for Ebenezer's data.
If you are willing
to share any data for ebenezer,
please contact
me. Thank you"
Note:
From the
Salem Witch Trials:
I have
found a Deposition of
Nathaniel
Clark and wife,
Elizabeth,
20 Oct 1686 "Testimony
against
Goodwife Susannah Martin"
I believe
this Nathaniel may be
related to
my Matthew, perhaps
even his father
since the dates
would work.
If anyone has
these folks'
data, I'd love to hear
from you.
