THE NEIGHBOR
She lives three miles
down the road
with no one else
in between /
when we were small
we played together under
my porch with
the distance between
our homes never seen as a
barrier /
my brother built
a fort which didn’t allow
girls /
we were the only two
girls around and preferred
playing with our
sock dollies under
the porch anyway /
when Annabelle
had her puppies
we were the only two she’d
let touch them /
because they were born
right in our
sock dollie hospital /
not in the fort!
