EARLY MORNING WALK

This morning’s early walk finds birds
shopping for worms to feed their young

and crickets which have grown tired of chirping,
now screaming to each other
from across the road.

Frogs while still riveting are also jumping lazily
as they wait for the sun to come and warm them.
I continue walking: inhaling, exhaling,
on my
mission to become one with nature.
The day is opening, fresh as a new tossed salad,
and
smelling of every kind of growing thing.
Oxygen is filling my lungs,
while the sound of
baby birds begging for breakfast,
fills my ears.
Chimney smoke is curling giant mystical letters
across the sky as the whole Earth yawns with
expectations of the new day.

The sweet smells of trees and flowers lift my spirit
as I drink in the air
and am renewed to continue my walk.

I am seized with overflowing rapture as the first
rays of the sun rise above the horizon, and
am stopped dead in my tracks as I become one with
the brilliant colors, and rise with the sun,
becoming for an instant,
part of the overall scheme of things.

I feel the joy of all nature:
I am the birds, crickets, frogs.

I am the trees, flowers,
and the new day dawning.
Nothing quite compares
to an early
morning walk in the country.
