The island woman is baring down hard
on the very precipice of giving birth
screaming as though her body
were being torn apart

While listening to the human above cry out
and hearing a baby begin to scream it’s
“arrival message”, the oyster mother
continues nurturing her pearl

The
baby is put to the mother’s breast
and discovers the sweet sense
of bonding: baby and mother,
unaware the father is diving, searching.

The man presents the magnificent pearl
to his wife, who looks at it’s rare beauty
and instinctively cries,
“You really shouldn’t have!”
