A cocktail before dinner
social graces must be adhered to.
Company’s a good excuse for
an extra glass of wine.

Company
doesn’t see her take
the two little pills she swallows
in private, telling herself they’re
just to help her relax a bit.

Neither they, nor she, knows
she’s addicted. She smiles
and her smile lights up the
whole room /

Having never learned that peace
and happiness come from within,
She believes her life to be
a
miserable existence.

She’s angry, gossipy,
and treats others
as inferiors.

After her suicide
none of this will be mentioned.

Her obituary will simply state;
The world mourns the passing of a
wealthy and beautiful Socialite.
