I sunbathe often in my yard
relaxed as I can be
In the arch of lovely rose bushes,
And near the willow tree
My favorite part of sunbathing
Is the bull frog who sits with me
I first observed her in early spring
Singing enthusiastically
She sang tunes only a bullfrog sings
In her croaky voice near by
She sang of birds living in her tree
That had now taken to the sky

As years passed I read to her
From my books of poetry
She liked to sit between my chaise
And the root of her willow tree
At times she'd sing / or I would read
As we passed the summers together
That remarkable bull frog and me
I missed her in inclement weather

This summer she surprised me
By hopping up on my chaise
She sang a song of love to me
just inches from my face
No longer feeling she needs the
Protection of her ancient tree
She feels free to hop about
Enjoying the sun with me
