Lee Henry was also known
as "Light Horse Harry"
He is the grandnephew
of Richard Bland,
and the first
cousin once removed of
Richard Henry Lee &
Charles "Lightfoot"
(only brothers to sign
the Declaration of Independence).
Henry is the brother
of Charles Lee and Richard
Bland Lee(see below),
and the third cousin of
President Zachary Taylor
(see "The Presidents" Page
by clicking on the link
below).
Henry served as
one of Washington's most
brilliant Generals
during the Rev. War.
He married his
second cousin Phillip's daughter,
Matilda and they
had three children together.
He is also the
grandfather of Fitzhugh Lee and
William Henry Fitzhugh
Lee.
Henry was born
in Prince William County, Va.,
January 29, 1756.
He was the delegate
to the Continental Congress from
Virginia, 1786-88;
He served as Governor
of Virginia, 1791-94
and as U.S. Representative
from Virginia at-large,
1799-1801 He eulogized
George Washington as
"First in war, first
in peace,
and first in
the hearts of his countrymen."
Henry died
on March 25, 1818.
Lee County,
Va. is named for him. When Matilda
died,
Henry married
the young, beautiful, and very wealthy
Anne Hill Carter.
They had a son, (fifth child for
Henry),
and this son was, General
Robert E. (Edward) Lee.

Judge, US Attorney General (1795-1801
Brother
to VA Gov Henry Lee
Member
of the American Whig Society 1775.
Was appointed
Naval Officer, by Gov
Patrick Henry 1795.
Apppointed to
the post of US Atty Gen by
President George
Washington.
He served under
both Presidents Washington
and Adams, and
both (according to their letters),
considered Lee to be
among their most learned advisors.
After his retirement,
Judge Lee practiced law in Virginia
and Washington.
He is one of
the Attorneys that defended Aaron Burr
in his famous
Treason Trial.

6) WILLIAM HENRY FITZHUGH
LEE (1837-1891)
Governor of Virginia
(Grandson of Gov.
Henry Lee /
son of Gen Robert E.
Lee)
Democrat.
2LT, 6th Reg, US
Infantry. Accompanied his
Regiment in 1858
in the expedition to Utah.
Resigned in 1859.
In 1861 he raised a
company of Cavalry
and joined the Confederate
Service.
In May 1861 he was
promoted Captain, Corps of
Cavalry, C.S.A., and
in the same month was
promoted Major in the
Regular Army.
During the W.V. Campaign,
he acted as Chief of
Cavalry for General
Loring.
In the Winter of 1861-1862
he was commissioned
Lieutenant-Colonel of
the Ninth Virginia
Cavalry Regiment.
In March of 1862 he
was promoted to Colonel.
In November he was
promoted to the rank of
Brigadier-General. He
was severely wounded
in the leg and taken
prisoner. He was first
taken to Fortress Monroe,
then held at Fort
Lafayette until March
of 1864.
Upon his return home
he was promoted to the
rank of Major-General.
Virginia Senator
1875-1878 (Presiding Officer).
President of Virginia
Agricultural Society.
Congressman from Virginia
to the fiftieth, fifty-first,
and fifty-second Congresses,
serving from 1887,
until his death in 1891.
